A History of Indianapolis Homebuilding
Believed to possibly be the oldest organized builder group in the United States, the Indianapolis Home Builders first formed in 1922. The organization’s first by-laws were drafted Feb. 22, 1940. The name change to the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis (BAGI) came in 1969 to reflect the organization’s growing reach.
The charter jurisdiction of BAGI includes Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Madison, Marion, Morgan and Shelby Counties — a thriving region for new housing growth. The area’s homebuilding and remodeling industry generates millions of dollars in wages, taxes, fees and other revenue for local economies every year.
All BAGI builders and remodelers agree to adhere to the Quality Assurance Builder Standards. The standards are a series of performance measurements both builders and customers can use to communicate and understand each other’s expectations throughout a project while providing a written set of guidelines for addressing any issues that may arise.
