BAGI Reports 25% Year-Over-Year Growth in December New Home Construction Permits

INDIANAPOLIS (January 17, 2025) — The Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis (BAGI) announced a significant 25% year-over-year increase in new home construction permits for December 2024.

The December report underscores the sustained high demand for new housing in Central Indiana. With interest rates not decreasing over recent months, the continued strong consumer interest speaks to the market demand.

As Indiana experiences continued economic expansion and population growth, the need for diverse and affordable housing options remains pressing. BAGI’s December report highlights the strength of the region’s real estate market and signals promising opportunities for homebuilders moving into 2025.

“This year’s remarkable growth in home construction permits reflects the confidence that buyers and builders alike have in Central Indiana’s housing market,” said Christian Rector, 2025 President of BAGI. “While limited inventory and other challenges remain, the sustained demand for housing presents an exciting opportunity to innovate and expand our capacity to deliver homes that meet the needs of our growing communities.”

Looking at the data year-over-year, the total permits for the year was 10,044 compared to 7,959 permits in 2023. This strong performance concludes a total 26% year-over-year growth in permits for the entirety of 2024.
